Malnutrition poses one of the most significant risks to child survival globally and is the root cause of nearly half of all child fatalities. Action Against Hunger is internationally recognized for its expertise in saving the lives of malnourished children, built on over four decades of experience in regions where hunger is most severe and entrenched.
We operate in more than 55 countries, addressing undernutrition in settings ranging from isolated rural communities to refugee camps. Our efforts span both humanitarian emergencies and more stable environments, aiming to enhance the health and survival of the most vulnerable children, along with pregnant women and nursing mothers
HUMANITARIAN CARE FOUNDATION offers complimentary access to health and support services aimed at enhancing physical, mental, and social well-being. We provide assistance to individuals from vulnerable groups who are at a higher risk of self-harm.
Our team consists of trained professionals and well-equipped healthcare personnel dedicated to supporting those experiencing psychological challenges.
We emphasize harm reduction, early intervention, and preventive measures.
By providing free access to health and social support services, we address the social determinants of health, focusing on the individual as a whole rather than just their illness or condition.
We firmly believe that healthcare access is a fundamental human right. Through our health and healthcare outreach initiatives, we aim to raise awareness about preventive health practices, conduct medical checkups, and deliver essential healthcare services to underserved communities. Our objective is to enhance health outcomes and foster well-being among children, youth, and families.
Action Against Hunger has been at the forefront of developing some of the initial formulas and methods for treating malnourished children. Globally, our teams operate in health facilities, mobile units, and local communities to identify instances of malnutrition and guarantee that children receive essential treatment. Each year, our community-focused nutrition initiatives assist hundreds of thousands of mothers and children.
Educate, Assist, and Empower Caregivers
Our teams instruct community health workers to inform mothers, fathers, and other caregivers about the advantages of breastfeeding and enhanced nutrition to support the healthy growth of babies and young children.
In our peer support groups, we collaborate with expectant mothers and new parents – including fathers! – to promote and encourage good health, nutrition, hygiene, sanitation, and caregiving practices for mothers, infants, and young children.
We also educate parents on utilizing straightforward tools to identify malnutrition at home, without needing a health worker's assistance. This enables them to regularly monitor their children's nutritional status and, if necessary, seek treatment promptly.
Offer Mental Health Assistance
Experiences related to conflict, severe weather conditions, the anxiety of food scarcity, illnesses, and other distressing situations can lead to trauma, depression, and various mental health challenges. For parents, this can sometimes hinder their ability to bond and care for their children, potentially resulting in malnutrition or other health issues.
Action Against Hunger’s teams deliver psychological first aid during emergencies, provide mental health counseling, create safe spaces for women and children to find tranquility, engage in play, bond, and discuss challenging topics, and assist individuals in developing coping mechanisms to address mental health difficulties.
Enhance Health Systems
Robust health systems are crucial for saving lives and enabling children to not just survive, but also flourish. We offer technical expertise and support aimed at fortifying community health systems, which helps in leveraging and enhancing local capabilities. Our goal is to share our knowledge, address shortages in supplies and funding, collaborate with communities and local governments, and enhance local health and nutrition services to ensure a lasting impact.
Create Innovative New Strategies
For over 45 years, our teams have been at the forefront of research in the nutrition sector. We have played a key role in developing groundbreaking nutrition treatment products and have carried out field tests of innovative treatment protocols that have become standard practice. Currently, our research focuses on saving more children's lives by refining and creating new methods for preventing and treating malnutrition.
